Phillip DeFreitas and 8 boys from his academy travelled to Sri Lanka at February half term for some cricket in the sunshine. This was a great opportunity for the boys to gain valuable playing and training experience and with temperatures around 35° this was a real challenge. With two matches planned over the 6 days, there was little chance to acclimatise to the blistering conditions. Overall, the boys did very well, playing teams from the Somerset U16s and Wiltshire U17s County set ups and they acquitted themselves very well. The Sri Lankan cricket legends Sanath Jayasuriya and Aravinda De Silva also came along to lend their support to the boys.
Phillip said "Touring Sri Lanka has not only inspired us all, but we have also created friendships and discovered new cultures. The boys have learnt so many new things that they will take away and apply to their cricket and lives."
Next Generation Cricket is looking to make this an annual tour and if future tours are as good as the one, supplied by Lions Sports Travel, then I'm signing up now. Tour photographs
